Program Goals
Youths for Excellence is a transitional and mentoring program specially designed to target middle and high school youths who are at risk of educational failure, school drop-out, teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol use and abuse, truancy, juvenile delinquency, and others who might be pressured into becoming gang members.
A Program of Transition
Here, transition refers to preparing the student for the transition from high school into the adult world. Students may pursue postsecondary education, vocational training, continuing or adult education, full or part-time employment, the armed services, having satisfactory personal and social relationships, and/or becoming involved in their communities. Transition planning is one way to ensure that educators of all children with or without disabilities meet their unique needs and prepare them for independent living.
A Program for The Future
The program is designed to provide students with a series of coordinated activities that will assist them as they explore career, education, and employment opportunities. Through these experiences, students will learn the skills necessary to better prepare them for an active and fulfilling life. Student’s aspirations, goals, and objectives will be evaluated through various means: educational, psychological, and cognitive assessments; interviews; aptitude, interest, and career inventories. These aspirations, goals, and objectives will serve as the impetus for the delivery of transition services to our students.
